Well, I finished it.
And the neck is still icky.
Even after a sewn cast-off so it would fit over my noggin.
I've put it in the naughty corner for now...and tomorrow? Tomorrow I will probably rip, read the Zimmermaniacs group on Ravelry (duh, yes, shoulda done that before, yada, yada) take notes then have another go. The yarn is too nice not to have it right. I may even take it further down and put in short rows across the shoulders. Eep.
Sorry Elizabeth. But you really should have mentioned that picking-up stitches thing for the neck.
